White Castle Hamburgers
The White Castle restaurant franchise was started in 1921 and has locations in 11 states as well as retail sales locations across the United States. In my opinion, the restaurant locations serve the best tasting hamburger that exists. White Castle burgers, known as “belly bombers” to Baby Boomers and “sliders” to GenXers (it’s true they do slide down your belly, and detonate like a bomb a few hours later,) are meant to be eaten in quantity. Because they are small in size, it’s not unusual to find people ordering bags of 10, 20 or 30 burgers. When we lived far enough away from White Castle, I’d order 100 at a time, (which always annoyed the personnel as they have to come back and make sure that the order is not a prank,) and take them home and freeze them. At one point, White Castle actually had a service that would fly the burgers to you, packed in dry ice. Their air delivery service only lasted five years. The reason you order White Castle burgers at one of their restaurants, instead of just picking them up in your supermarket, is that burgers prepared at a White Castle restaurant are cooked with onions and come with pickles. The taste is far superior to the White Castle burgers sold in supermarkets. White Castle burgers are square, (actually, square with rounded corners,) and have five holes in them. The square shape allows more burgers to be cooked at one time, and holes let steam rise through so that both sides of the burger cook at once and the person cooking the burger never has to flip them. The rounded corners avoid break-off and waste. Although the science behind the White Castle burger is sensible in nature, it also produces a very tasty 2-ounce burger. (We did say they were small.) You should use 45 seconds to 60 seconds per burger to warm frozen burgers up in your microwave, depending on the wattage. It's unfortunate for the rest of the country that the frozen supermarket burgers just don’t do justice to the way a White Castle burger should taste. While the White Castle franchise got a lot of free publicity in the movie Harold and Kumar go to White Castle, the people in New Jersey, (where the movie took place,) and the residents of 11 states that have White Castle restaurants are not surprised that someone would obsess over the small and tasty burger. |

You ordered 100 at a time? No wonder you had to get into the weight-loss business. I guess it's a New Jersey thing, this hardcore habit of eating meat in large quantities. I heard about the "beefsteak". I wonder if White Castle will still be around in 50 years time.
